Gold for Germany for the 5th Consecutive Time
Germany's score was 5638, with the silver going to the Netherlands, 5579, and the bronze to the USA, 5165. This gold medal is the seventh Germany has won in the Team Dressage competition since 1964. Runners up to Germany at Atlanta and Barcelona, the Netherlands put up a brave fight. Although the score of Olympic first-timer Coby van BAALEN (NED) helped the Netherlands inch closer to their main rivals, the German team was once again too strong. The sun shone for the last combination of the day, Christine TRAURIG (USA) and ETIENNE, whose score of 1745 secured the bronze medal from Denmark. The German-Dutch rivalry continues into the Individual Dressage competition with Isabell WERTH(GER) in front on a score of 1908, ahead of Anky van GRUNSVEN (NED) by 33. Ironically, Nadine CAPELLMANN (GER) and Coby van BAALEN (NED) are in equal third position. The Individual Dressage competition continues on Friday at 10:00 when
the top 25 combinations from the Grand Prix test will ride the Grand
Prix Special. |
