The End of an Era Mark Todd from New Zealand Retires
Andrew Hoy, who said he would miss Todd, also said he was glad he was leaving three-day eventing. He was thinking that with one less top person in the three-day world, there just might be some more honors for himself. About Todd, Andrew noted, "Mark has tremendous feel and balance when he is on a horse. He is able to get the best out of the horse on that day." With a chuckle he added, "He's good on the dance floor as well. He's pretty flexible." "We'll all miss him in the competitive side. It's an era and an era has come to a close," concluded O'Connor. When asked what he attributes the consistant quality of brave fast horses that come from New Zealand Todd explained "The horse is allowed to be a horse in our country. The foals are born in the fields, and there is land for them to run free in the early stages of their life." With Karen O'Connor's Prince Panache a former horse of Todd's, there
is no doubt that Mark Todd will continue to influence the sport of eventing
as he raises future equine athletes. |
