Doing His "Personal Best" is what is important to Andrew Hoy
That personal best could be a rider being able to canter for the first time or it could be an Olympic veteran negotiating a clear round. It doesn't always mean winning a medal. "That was one of the most wonderful rides I've ever had," commented Hoy after negotiating a clear cross country course on Swizzle In. "It was her first time at this level and today was unbelievable." Hoy has a lot of "unbelievable" moments in his career. He claimed the gold medal on Kiwi at the 1992 Olympic Games. In fact, his gold medal in Sydney was the third Olympics in a row that he will walk away with a gold medal. Yet, having accomplished so much did not seem to take away from the appreciation Hoy has for every success that he has accomplished. Over the cross country course Swizzle In had done her personal best
and whether or not that would translate into a medal was not what was
most important. For Hoy it would be nice to win an individual medal,
but if he doesn't, just knowing that Swizzle In did the best job on
that day was what was important. |
