2003 North American Young Riders Championships Canadian Young Riders Head off to North American Championships Equine Canada is pleased to announce that representatives from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia will participate in the 2003 F.E.I. North American Young Riders' Championships (NAYRC), held in conjunction with Les Championnat des Amériques, in Bromont, QC, at the site of the 1976 Olympic equestrian events, on August 20-24, 2003. The show jumping portion of the Championships has two divisions- CH-N.AM-YR-S (Championships) for riders ages 16 to 21 and CSI-JY for riders 14 to 18. The Quebec Championships Show Jumping Team consists of Vanessa Paschini of Boisbriand, QC, Christine Boisseau of Sillery, QC, Felix-Antoine Moulin of Cap-Rouge, QC, Francois Lamontagne of St-Georges, QC, and Alexander Rohling of Val des Monts, QC. Isabelle Rochon of St-Eustache, QC, Nicolas-Xavier Belanger of Calixa Lavallee, QC, Jennifer O'Neill of Westmount, QC, and Melissa Marcotte of St-Nicolas, QC, will make up the Quebec CSI-JY Show Jumping Team. Kelley Small of Kanata, ON, Elliott Stone of Midland, ON, Keean White of Cambridge, ON, Carly Campbell-Cooper of Elora, ON, and Chris Sorenson of Caledon East, ON, were selected for the Ontario Championships Show Jumping Team. Kimberley Farlinger of Annan, ON will represent Ontario at the CSI-JY Show Jumping level. Ontario's Young Riders' Dressage Team will consists of Stephanie Chalaturnyk of King, ON, Chris von Martels of Ridgetown, ON, Kathryn Yardley of Ottawa, ON and Krystalann Shingler of Oshawa, ON. Veronique Lavalle of St-Lazare, QC, Francesca Sirsly of Dorval, QC, will represent the province of Quebec in dressage competition. Competing as Canada West in dressage is Janet Hambly of Eckville, AB, Pia Fortmuller of Dewinton, AB and Shannon Camphaug of Caronport, SK. The eventing competition has two divisions- CCI** Championship division as well as a CCIJ/Y* level. For a combined team of Ontario/Quebec, Colleen Loach of North Hatley, QC, Jacquie Sturm of New Hamburg, ON, Ashley Minion of Warsaw, ON and Shandiss Wewiora of Oakville, ON will compete at the CCI** Championship level. In the CCIJ/Y* division, the Ontario team will be made up of Amanda Beard of Orillia, ON, Waylon Roberts of Port Perry, ON, Hilary Popiel of Carleton Place, ON, and Lindsay Pearce of Tecumseh, ON. A second team, Alberta/Ontario/Quebec, is comprised of Colleen Loach, Jessica Ruppel of Ravenna, ON, Colin Campbell of Stittsville, ON, and Sarah Green of Calgary, AB. Team British Columbia/Ontario consists of Trish Green of Orton, ON, Ashley Knight of Orillia, ON, Brandon McMechan of Shannonville, ON, and Samantha Taylor of Richmond, BC. In 2002, Katie Evans of Burlington, ON won the bronze medal in CCI** individual competition and Ontario Show Jumping Championships Team won the silver medal in the Team competition at the F.E.I. North American Young Riders' Championships held in Wadsworth, IL. The Ontario Team consisted of Rebecca Irvine of Brockville, ON, Elliott Stone of Midland, ON, Keean White of Cambridge, ON, Carly Campbell-Cooper of Elora, ON. The NAYRC is a prestigious international competition that brings together young equestrians from across Canada. Riders from Canada, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chili and Uruguay will compete in the disciplines of show jumping, eventing, and dressage. For many riders, this is the first opportunity they have to compete as members of a team. Canada is honoured to host the NAYRC in conjunction with Les Championnat des Amériques. Equine Canada is a member-based association that represents, promotes and services Canada's equine community and industry. Its core areas of activity involve sport, equine health and welfare, education and safety, governance and marketing, representation and communication. Equine Canada is recognized by Sport Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Coaching Association of Canada as the national organization representing equestrian sport and equine interests in Canada.
