2002 Northeast Junior/Young Rider Dressage Championships

Grand Champion And Reserve

McCarthyCaroline McCarthy of Geneva, New York, and her horse Dante, a seven-year-old Swedish warmblood, emerged as the Overall High Score at the NEJR/YR Dressage Championships. Caroline also won the Overall High Score in Dressage with her 70.4% ride in the Paddock Training Level B Division for 14-15 Year Olds. In the three-phase championship, Caroline was the only rider to win all three phases of her division - the Written Test, the Dressage Equitation, and the Dressage Test. In addition to her Gold Medal, ribbons, and Champion sash, Caroline also was awarded a saddle from The Paddock.

Caroline trains with Debbie Lochmeir. As trainer of the Champion, Debbie was awarded a three-day trip to Canyon Ranch Spa in the Berkshires. A smiling Lendon made the presentation and then named off all her students who participated in the Championships but did not win the trip for her. "I really wanted that," she laughed.

Separated by just .5 from the Champion was the Reserve, Gina De Santis of Chester, New York with her 11-year-old Thoroughbred, At Ease. Gina rode in the Training Level B Division for riders 18-21 years old.
