2002 Northeast Junior/Young Riders Championships

Dressage Tests

Lendon Gray Busy at the 2002 NEJRCMichelle Gibson was originally scheduled to judge but called just before the show and had to cancel because she was hospitalized unexpectedly. Gabriel Armando was scheduled to do part of the classes but took both days' full schedule. Originally from Argentina, he came to the U.S. five years ago as a banker, but currently works as a full time rider, trainer and judge and recently competed in the small tour of the CDI at Blainville, Canada. "It's very nice to see so many enthusiastic young riders and the support from their relatives. I think they're working hard. It's a long way but they're going to make it," he said.

Gabriel pointed out that these riders have opportunities and exposure to other countries that he didn't have when he was young. "For sure, a lot of the future of U.S. dressage is going to come from here."

One of the best rides Gabriel judged today was at Training Level where he awarded one rider a 70% score. "I was very pleased to see that type of a rider, considering the youth of the rider." Overall Gabriel said that the riding he saw was going in the right direction, and displaying the characteristics that judges are looking for. "There are always things to improve. This is a career that never stops."
