Notes from Rio - Going for the Gold Good Morning, Today I am sending out an early Notes from Rio with the results from yesterday and a few emails from the Team. As soon as Kate (9:20 AM) and Chris (10:50 AM) have finished and we know the final standings, I will send out a quick bulletin. The results of the first day of competition: Standings for the Team Competition, July 14, Day 1 1. USA
Sagacious HF, Lauren Sammis 70.20% Our Team USA finishes up the team competition this morning and we should know the medal standing by noon. Here are a few of the emails I received from Rio during the last day: 1. Saturday, 7/14 from Chris Hickey of Team USA Thank you so much. I wanted to do the march, but it was a whole long involved thing- so I decided to stay at the hotel and rest. So glad LS did it though and had a good time, it was very important to her. I was thinking of you the whole time L was is the ring today- you both would have be so PROUD!! You were there- I felt you both standing (ok- Al was pacing!) right next to me!! The main ring is so huge- can't wait until tomorrow for me to go! What a feeling to be in that big space and the whole venue- must be really cool feeling - also to be on the TV far above everybody's heads as well as the scoreboard!!! We were all there waving American flags when she was done- it is cool to be part of all that- we have all seen it on video- now we are there!! 2. Saturday, 7/14 from Chris Hickey of Team USA Today is Sat, the only American to go today was Lauren. She is in the lead from today's group w/ a 70%!!! YEAH Lauren and team USA!!! Kate goes at 9:20 in the am and Regent and I go at 10:50, 4th from the end of the class. So we will then know the team standings by 12:00 (which is just the PSG). We are 1 hr ahead of eastern time. Then the top 25 from the PSG go on to the Inter 1 on Tues and the top 15 from that go on to the Freestyle on Wednesday for the Individual Medals. Regent has been feeling great, it has been nice to have Brenna here for more eyes on the ground and Meredith video's me everyday, that's been nice too. I watch it right away when I get off him so it is real fresh in my mind and body. Klaus helps too but he doesn't know the horses so well. He keeps saying he doesn't want to change anyone's training program here at the show, so I want to make sure people who know Regent see him and tell me what is good as well and also what is or isn't normal. The venue is real nice. Regent is still at the spa- getting hand walked in the am, getting his magnetic/massage blanket, having his work session, his bath, getting his legs iced with the game ready machine then getting hand walked again in the afternoon. I wish we all were able to do all that with them on a daily basis, it's so good for the horses! I will try to send results tomorrow, but everyone can go to Dressagedaily.com as well. Thanks so much for your support. 3. Saturday, 7/14 from Lauren Sammis of Team USA How can I describe the day? What an amazing experience. I am in first place after the first day of competition with a score of 70.2%. Second place is Canada with a 69.1%. The US is sitting strong for a medal. I was nervous about going first because I have never been in this type of competition before. I went in trying to make a strong impression for the US. I am so fortunate to ride such an amazing horse. He was truly a rock star! The judges have a positive impression now that will carry into the Intermediare. I couldn't be happier. Keep your fingers crossed. We are going for the gold!
