2005 CSIO Aachen United States Win Nations' Cup Show Jumping at CSIO Aachen August 26, 2005 The American show jumping team won the Samsung Nations' Cup at the 2005 CSIO Aachen. With 13 penalty points in total over two rounds, the American team was far superior to the second placed Dutch and French team who tied with 21 penalty points. U.S. anchor rider was without a doubt McLain Ward who had two clear rounds aboard his Belgian warmblood bred mare Sapphire (by Darco x Hedjaz). Beezie Madden and Authentic (Guidam x Katell xx) cleared the heavy course in the first round, but knocked down one rail in the second round. Jeffre Wells and his Armani (Guidam x Ramiro) had one down in the first round and one in the second round plus 1 time penalty. Laura Kraut and Miss Independent (by Kingston) produced the scratch score of 16 points for George Morris' jumper team. The Dutch equipe started out quite well with only four penalty points in the first round, but they could not maintain that top level in the second round. Gerco Schroder and Eurocommerce Monaco were the star riders for Holland with two zero rounds. The American owned BCM Nassau, an Indoctro x Sovereign Bill xx KWPN stallion in the ownership of Marvin and Deborah Hausman, were faultless in round one, but knocked down three rails in the second round. Newcomers on the Dutch team, Harrie Smolders and Oliver Q, had the scratch score of 8 penalty points in round one, but improved their act with only 5 points afterwards. The French team, consisting of Florian Angot, Herve Godignon, Gilles Bertran de Ballanda, and Eugenie Angot, had to support on the good rides of De Ballanda and Godignon to keep their overall score low. In the second round, Godignon and his KWPN bred Obelix (Burggraaf x Nimmerdor) had one time penalty, while De Balanda only knocked down one rail with Crocus Graverie (Rosire x Fend L'Air). Their total score of 21 points ranked them second together with the Dutch team. Complete Scores at: CHIO Aachen By Astrid Appels |
