Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum's Shutterfly Tested Positive to Doping

July 19, 2004

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum on ShutterflyRight after the Aachen Grand Prix, the German Olympic Show Jumping team was named. The German team includes riders Christian Ahlmann on Cöster, Otto Becker on Dobel´s Cento, Ludger Beerbaum on Goldfever and Marcus Ehning on For Pleasure. Reserve rider is Marco Kutscher on Montender.

Remarkably not included in the German Olympic Team is Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, whose top horse Shutterfly tested positive to doping.

On June 8, 2004, the FEI alerted the German Equestrian Federation that at the 2004 World Cup Finals Show Jumping (22-25 April 2004) Shutterfly was tested for doping. The results of the A-test showed that the horse was positive for metabolits of the substance Hydrozy-Promazine (which is part of the tranquillizer Acepromazin). The B-test of the sample also turned out to be positive.

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum denies the fact that she has used doping on her horse. The nominated riders of the German Olympic Team signed a petition at Aachen in support of Michaels-Beerbaum's case.
