Michael Freund Wins Four in-Hand Driving Competition

MIchael FreundGerman multiple carriage driving champion Michael Freund has won the Obstacle Driving Competition with one drive-off with a clear round and won the overall CAIO Four in Hand driving competition in Aachen.

Michael Freund is the German National Champion record-holder (10 times) and the three-fold World Cup Champion. He will compete in his tenth World Championships in Kecskemét, Hungary, in August. He was a member of the bronze medal winning team at the last World Championships in Jerez de la Frontera in 2002. In addition he won the Prize of the Richard Talbot Family at the CAIO Aachen for the fourth time (he previously won in 1994, 1998 and 2002).

Michael Freund announced at Aachen that he will be retiring from competition next year.

Tucker JohnsonPlacing second in the overall CAIO Driving Competition at Aachen was American Tucker Johnson. With his team of horses, which included Black Gold, Espry, Gido and Jonny, Johnson finished fifth in the A-placing, third in the B-placing, second in the AB-placing and 19th in the C-placing. His overall results brought him to second place.

The Hungarian Josef Dobrovitz placed third in the individual standing, but the Hungarian team did win the nations' competition for the first time.
