2002 World Equestrian Games History
in the Making: The US team voiced great pleasure at their participation and early lead in this historic appearance of reining in the WEG. "We're just really thrilled to be here," said Tom McCutcheon. "It's great for the sport." Chef d'equipe Jeff Petska was "thrilled so far" with his team's performance: "we came here prepared to do our best". They were also impressed with the venue and crowd; exclaimed McCutcheon, "it's a great turn out - the stands were packed!" The reining event took place in the same oval-shaped indoor ring as the vaulting competition. Although the space was a little bit shorter than is usual for reining competition, the footing was very good. Craig Schmerzal noted that not only did the American horses do well in the footing, but all the horses in the event looked to be sliding well. |
