2002 SICAB

Best Records For 2002 International Horse Show, in Seville

Sunday 1, December - SICAB, the international horse show in Spain, focused solely on Spanish horses, continued to beat records in attendance and participation by playing host to 230000 visitors, 209 livestock exhibitors and more than 1000 horses from all over the world

On display for the entire world to admire were, amongst other things, the most excellent examples of the Spanish purebred horse. In total 209 livestock exhibitors of the Spanish purebred participated and around 230000 equestrian aficionados passed through Seville's Palace of Exhibitions and Conferences, beating all previous attendance levels since the initiation of SICAB in 1990. Back then, according to the president of the National Association of Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders (ANCCE), around 500 horses participated and only about 20 exhibitors set up their stalls.

Despite the greater number of horses and livestock exhibitors taking part in the event originating from within Spain, this year's exhibition was to welcome the participation of livestock, exhibitors and press from beyond the Iberian peninsular, mainly France, Holland and the UK.

One of the major sources of income of the fair was the ticket for the daily show of SICAB. Due to high levels of public expectation, attendance was strong and occasional large queues before the start of each show. An average of 500 people filled the viewing stands daily. In the show only Spanish purebred horses participated, putting on a spectacular show similar to the opening and closing ceremonies of the World games in Jerez. Performances of the show included "Fantasies with Garrocha", 10 mares cobras from Candau Stud farm, guided only by the voice of D. Antonio Cantalejo, Mayoral of the farm; the amazing D. Antonio Ferreira Gonzalvez riding a stallion and driving six mares, three in each file. The show also had an international touch with the French presence of Mr. Chaps and Frederick Laurent, who amazed the entire public with their Volteo, Mexican Lace and Hungarian Posta.

Another part of the show demonstrated the admirable qualities of the PRE when 5 and 7 years old children appeared ridding PREs and showing the different equestrian disciplines like Garrocha, Dressage, High School, Vaquera, Driving, Side Saddle and Vaquera Dressage activities.
