Addison
Phillips and Trezebees are Two for Two Winning the $10,000 Welcome
Prix at Horse Shows by the Bay II
Traverse
City, MI - The wind was blowing strong today during the second week
of Horse Shows by the Bay at the Flintfields Horse Park in Traverse
City, MI. People were holding onto their things tightly as they
watched riders compete ring-side. However, the wind did not affect
the riders at Horse Shows by the Bay, which runs for this week through
Sunday, July 27, and the third week runs through Sunday, August 3.
Down at Team Elmer's Grand Prix ring, the second $10,000 Welcome Prix
was held today in front of a large crowd. The course, designed
by Canadian Michel Vaillancourt, kept everyone on the edge of their
seats. Over twenty riders attempted to make it around, but only
seven managed to make it to the jump-off. The class was run according
to Table II 2a.
The sponsor for today's $10,000 Welcome Prix was Beth Bakotic of AmberWay
Equine Solutions out of Ortonville, MI. Being a Michigan-based
company was only one of the reasons they so generously sponsored the
class.
"This is our first time sponsoring a class at a horse show, and we
are thrilled to start with a show such as the one in Traverse City. We
were here last year and just loved it," said Bakotic. "Being from Michigan
ourselves, we are honored to be affiliated with Horse Shows by the
Bay. We wanted to do our part for Michigan and the equine community
to help offer a show of this caliber to Michigan."
Winners of today's Welcome Prix were Addison Phillips and her chestnut
mare Trezebees. They won the class last week as well, making it
two in a row for the pair. She was all smiles when she rode into
the ring to accept her ribbon. The course was very different from
last week and required a specific type of ride in order to go clear.
"Winning two weeks in a row feels great. I have had this horse
for four years now, so it is nice to win on such a great horse; she
makes riding so much fun," said Phillips. "This week the course
was very technical. I wouldn't say necessarily the jumps were
very big, but the course was very hard to ride so I think it separated
the class."
Tomorrow at Horse Shows by the Bay Series II, the class to watch is
the always-exciting $10,000 ASG/USHJA High Performance International
Hunter Derby, which will run at 6 p.m., as well as the $10,000 Show
Jumping Hall of Fame Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic at 2 p.m. For
