Blainville, Quebec - Ainsley Vince of Milton, ON, posted the only clear round to win the $50,000 Grand Prix Jumping de Quebec held Sunday as the grand finale of the two-week CSI Blainville Jumping International held July 4 to 8 and July 11 to 15 in Blainville, Quebec.

Only the third rider to attempt the course designed by Luc Musette of Belgium, Vince jumped fault-free with Cantero Z, an eight-year-old Zangersheide gelding. The crowd enthusiastically cheered on each new candidate, but none who followed could duplicate Vince's perfect performance, giving her the win without a jump-off.

"I thought that the course was good, it did not walk like it would be that hard, I think it was just catching people on the back oxers from what I saw," noted Vince, referring to the width of some of the obstacles.

Vince, 30, found Cantero Z exactly one year ago in Belgium and has been working to form a partnership with him ever since. Cantero Z's sire, Cumano, won the World Championship last August under Belgian rider, Jos Lansink.

"It has been one year since I first met him and I feel like I am still getting to know him," said Vince, who operates her training business, Linden Ridge, in Milton, ON. "I was thrilled with his performance, he didn’t even rub a fence."

For the victory, Vince, a two-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion, picked up $15,000 in prize money for owners Greg and Irene Aziz of Iron Horse Farm. Vince also placed tenth with her veteran partner Catch 22, now 17 years old.

Although Jonathon Millar, 32, had a dramatic crash through the liverpool at fence number three, he kept going to finish with four faults in the fastest time riding Fancy Hill 2. Millar of Perth, ON, and the 12-year-old grey Hannoverian mare owned by Jebb's Creek Investments had won Friday's $20,000 Open Welcome Stake.

American Olympic Silver Medalist Peter Leone of Greenwich, CT, guided Andre 3000 to third place for owner Double H Farm after having a rail at fence number eight, the obstacle that came down more than any other during the competition.

In his final Grand Prix appearance before departing for Rio de Janeiro where he will represent the Canadian Show Jumping Team at the Pan American Games, Mac Cone, 54, of King City, ON, placed fourth riding Ole, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Sara Houstoun and Larry Evoy. Cone's Pan Am mount, Melinda, is already in quarantine in Florida.

Hailing from Texas, Martien Vander Hoeven was the only other rider to have four faults riding Southbound. Canadian-bred, Southbound enjoyed an eventing career under Canadian Equestrian Team member, Penny Rowland, before Vander Hoeven purchased the horse earlier this year.
