Posted March 17, 2006 Allwyn Court’s Katherine Newman Earns Top Honors with Castleton at Winter Equestrian Festival
Newman transitioned the horse into the Junior Hunters, and this was only the second time the young horse had shown in that division. This week Castleton took home a first and two second place ribbons in the Large Junior Working Hunters 15 & Under, sealing the reserve championship tricolor. “It was fabulous for Katherine to get to show Castleton again this weekend,” reported Kathy Newman, Katherine’s mother and trainer. “She showed him for the first time last weekend and was second and fifth. This weekend she was right on it. She had him figured out, and he moved up nicely in the Junior division.” Kathy added, “When Katherine came out of the ring last weekend, she said, ‘Wow! He is so nice to ride!’ We’re really lucky to have a horse like him available in the barn for Katherine to practice on, especially since he’s a new ride for her. He’s a wonderful young horse.” When not riding for her parent’s farm, the young talent competes with catch rides that become available during competitions. This weekend she rode Robert Cole’s mount, Best of Everything, in the Small Junior Working Hunters 15 & Under and earned high ribbons. Fifteen year old Newman rides additional horses at Allwyn Court, owned by her parents Kathy and Gerry Newman. This past week, she also rode her own Corvet Z in the Small Junior Hunters 15 & Under division. Other horses at Allwyn Court shown by Newman include Mimi Abel-Smith’s Barcelona, Gran Cru, and Timeless. PHOTO CREDIT: Castleton and Katherine Newman. PHOTO BY: Randi Muster |
