2006 Legacy Cup Jamie Martin and Cayman Are the Stars of the Amateurs “He is a wonderful horse and he is like my pet. If he could ride in the back seat of my car or could hop up on the back of the golf cart; there is nothing that would make him happier. If he could go with me to my hotel room he would curl up with me and go to sleep. He would love to be a dog. They hate to see me come into the barn because as soon as he hears my voice he starts banging at the door. He wraps his neck around me and gives me a big hug,” she said with a smile. This was Martin’s third Legacy Cup. In 2003 she won with Monte Cristo and then last year she showed Cayman. “I was disappointed because I didn’t ride him very well. This year I was determined that I was not going to blow the Legacy Cup.” Martin hadn’t schooled him for very long because he will be showing through Sunday and so the horse who is “normally quiet was frisky was jumping the moon today and bucking at the end.” Martin also liked the course. “It was a nice flowing hunter course to get everyone inside for the first time. It is a little bit of a hard class because you are showing outside and you come in just to do that one class. You are not adjusted to go indoors and the horses are not accustomed to competing indoors.” Martin is at the horse show with her 10-year-old daughter Tinsley who will be competing in the Non Pro 3’ division on Coconut Grove and Monty Pinto. Her husband E.B., who she has been married to for 21 years, is home with her two boys Joseph (13) and E.B.III (14). She’ll be keeping in touch with them to let them know how things are going. The lawyer whose face was alive with enthusiasm and determination responded very quickly when asked if she had anything else she wanted to say. “I hope to win!” she concluded. |
