Saloon is Amazing for Waxman

Saloon and Jennifer Waxman“He jumps amazing, he is so much fun to ride and he always tries his best,” said the happy 14-year-old who couldn’t say enough good things about the bay, Warmblood gelding who she generally competes in the Large Junior Hunters. “He is the nicest horse ever.”

Waxman was also pleased with the Glen Moody designed course noting, “I thought the course was good – nice but not too overwhelming. He did a good job making it not too challenging.”

“I wasn’t that nervous because it was the Go Round. I just wanted to put down a solid round to come back for tomorrow,” explained Waxman, who didn’t have much time to prepare Saloon for the Go Round. “The schooling area was small and there were a lot of people in it so we only did a few jumps.”

“He’s a show horse and he knows it and he has a lot of experience, which is helpful. He’s won a lot with his owner (Whitney Roper). When I landed after the last jump I was happy because I put down a really good round,” she continued.

Waxman is thankful to so many people for her many achievements and talks about her family with enthusiasm. “My mom comes to every show. She gets excited when I do well. She is not really a horse person but she is learning. My dad will come every once in a while. I have two older brothers – Michael is a freshman in college and Adam is a junior in High School. They support me and when I come home and do well they think it is good but they don’t understand all that I am doing.”

While Waxman, Chagrin Falls, OH, is appreciative of all her mom’s support she also made a point of thanking all her trainers - Ken & Emily Smith, Kristi Cardalico and David Nation and added, “and thank you to my parents for letting me do this and to my mom for taking me to all the horse shows and helping me while I am there. And thank you to Whitney Roper and Susie Humes for letting me have Saloon for this year.”

When asked how she will maintain her cool for the 3’6” Non Pro Finals, Waxman noted, “I will just try not to get nervous. Not think about it too much.”

Waxman, who has her horses stay at her own barn, also makes sure that she does her homework. “I really get to know my horses and I work hard to prepare at home so I know they are ready to go in the ring.”

Yet it all comes down to the horse she can’t say enough good things about. “He is so sweet and he knows he is awesome. He is the king. I love him,” she concluded.
