Ludo Philippaerts is Unstoppable

Following his two Global Champions Tour wins, Ludo Philippaerts will now rest his grey stallion, Parco, until the World Equestrian Games in Aachen Photo Credits - Manfred LeitgebEstoril, Portugal, July 23, 2006 – The fourth leg of the Global Champions Tour (GCT), sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide, became cause for celebration for Ludo Philippaerts. The Belgian, who had already won two classes during CSI5* Estoril, emerged victorious in Sunday's 150,000 euros "Costa do Estoril" Grand Prix.

Twelve riders were clear in the first round of the 1.60m class, then seven earned a place in the jump-off with a second clear round. Of them, Philippaerts was the fastest with Parco in 38.90 seconds and, with his win, extended his lead in the GCT rankings to 111,500 euros. Runner-up in the Grand Prix of Estoril was Edwina Alexander (AUS) aboard Isovlas Pialotta in 39.61 seconds while Bernardo Alves (BRA) riding Chupa Chupa 2 finished third in 41.15 seconds.

"This is one of the best shows I have ever ridden at," gushed Philippaerts, who also won the third leg of the Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide, in Monaco last month. The small arena in the harbour of Monte-Carlo demanded agility from the horses whereas the arena of the Hipodromo Municipal Manuel Posso in Estoril offered lots of room for long, fast gallops. "The course was fabulous, I was not concerned about a single fence," praised Philippaerts. Alexander was also very positive when it came to course designer Frank Rothenberger (GER), saying, "I think he is one of the best course designers in the world."

Making the day even more special, Philippaerts is also a Rider Ambassador for JustWorld International, the official charity partner of the Global Champions Tour.

The next leg of the Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide, will be held during CSI5* Valkenswaard (NED) from August 17-20, 2006.
