Posted May 28, 2006 Shooting “Stars” at San Patrignano’s CSI The event is to take place on July 21-23, and will, as always, feature its most important competition in the evening, beginning at 9pm. However, this year’s show promises to be different in two very different respects. First of all, it has now joined the elite group of horse shows which can boast five stars, meaning it has a total of prize money of €350,000: the highest of any jumping competition. And along with the highest prize money comes the highest level of competition and technical excellence. The second surprise this year is that director Ettore Pasculli will film the opening sequence of his new made for TV movie “The Secret Friend” during the show. A film about horses and doping, disabilities and solidarity, it has obtained the patronage of the Presidency of the Italian Republic for its message. The movie will be shown throughout Europe, and will be presented in several film festivals and competitions, as well as being a part of the “Drugs Off” initiative, spearheaded by the community. The project is designed to promote values and education through sport, with the support of FISE (Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports), APICE (Italian Association of Sporthorse Owners), with the cooperation of the Bayer pharmaceutical company, which has given its backing in recognition of its cultural and social value.
“Each year, we aim to raise the quality of the CSI”, explains Giacomo Muccioli, president of the Organizing Committee, “and this year we have further proof that the young men of the community do great work, and of the wonderful working relationship that has been established with our show director Eleonora Ottaviani, and with Dutch technical advisor Emile Hendrix”. The course will be designed by someone who has found a second home at San Patrignano, Marco Cortinovis, who also held the role at last summer’s European Championship. As for the riders, the show office has already received a list of confirmed participants that reads like a “who’s who” of equitation: Markus Fuchs (ranked 7th worldwide), Beat Maendli (21st), Christina Liebherr (silver medal at San Patrignano ’05), Dutch riders Gerco Schroder (6th) and Jeroen Dubbledam (bronze medal at San Patrignano ’05), as well as Belgian star Ludo Phillipaerts (24th). Italy’s Jerry Smit will ride three horses born and raised on the grounds of the community: the stallion Nadir, mare Poiana, and gelding Quadrifoglio. PHOTO CREDIT: C. Houghton |
