19th Annual Vinceremos Fund Raiser The Most Successful Ever
Honorary Chairperson, Mason Phelps, Jr., and Auctioneer, Michael Barrisone, delighted the 390 guests with an entertaining banter to generate enthusiasm for the Live and Silent Auction. At the gentle prompting of Phelps and Barrisone, a number of generous supporters also stepped up to the podium, each agreeing to donate $4,200 to care for a VTRC horse for the year. Chairpersons, Dr. Cetty Weiss and Mrs. Tuny Page, organized an elegant event, which netted $135,000 for the VTRC. The event also honored the VTRC Rider of the Year, Staci Bell, and Volunteer of the Year, Christina Cooney. The center located on the eastern edge of Loxahatchee and Wellington, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit established in 1982 to provide equestrian therapy to those with physical and mental disabilities. Named after the Latin verb, “to overcome and conquer”, and an accredited center of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), Vinceremos serves over 350 clients using the horses’ gentle nature and rhythmic movements and the help of dedicated instructors with extensive expertise. The annual benefit raises the operating funds for the program each year. Spearheaded by Executive Director Ruth Menor and the Vinceremos Board of Directors, a major capital campaign, “Cover Our Kids” was also initiated in 2005 to build a covered arena. The covered arena will allow the VTRC to operate a year-round program in all weather conditions and will protect the riders and horses from enduring the intense sun and heat during the summer months.
