Bauersachs and Tammy Provost Win in Hunters Today at Winter Equestrian
Festival
Both Seduced, Second Year Green champion, and Fortuitous, Green Conformation champion, were ridden in the professional divisions to prepare them for their owners to show later this week. Seduced and rider Jennifer Bauersachs were very consistent yesterday, as they won both over fences classes and placed third in the under saddle class. The seven year old gelding was “a little bit fresh” for the first jumping class today, said Bauersachs, but then “he settled and was really good” for the second over fences class and ended up in second place. Those top ribbons gave him the win over Sardonyx and Kara Raposa, who rode for Stephen Martines to the reserve championship. Bauersachs rode Seduced for Lee Kellogg, who will show him tomorrow in the Amateur-Owner 18-35 Hunters. “The plan going in today was not so much for the ribbons but just to keep his confidence and keep him riding well for Lee,” acknowledged Bauersachs. Although she was not expecting such fabulous results, Bauersachs did reveal that Seduced was a fun horse to ride. “He’s real scopey; you have to put sticky stuff on your legs to hang on!” said Bauersachs with a smile. Seduced’s fancy jumping style earned him the tricolor ribbon today, while he and Kellogg will be on the hunt for another this week. There was a similar situation in the Green Conformation Hunters today, as Tammy Provost rode Fortuitous to the win for amateur Donald Graves. It is a “fairly new ride” for Provost, and she remarked that the fancy dark chestnut was a “beautiful mover and easy to ride.” The pair were first and second over fences yesterday and received a fifth place in the under saddle. Like Seduced, Fortuitous was “a little green in the first class,” but came back for a solid second place ribbon in the last over fences class. Fortuitous will be ridden later this week by Donald Graves in the Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunters, and his success today was significant. “Showing over the 3’6” really helps; it just gives him that much more experience and confidence,” explained Provost. “It makes the 3 feet [in the Adult Amateurs] seem really easy.” Fortuitous has shown the benefits of being brought along slowly, said trainer Heather Irvine. “He showed two full years in the pre-greens and that’s why, up to this point, he’s such a special horse in the division,” Provost clarified. “They’ve really taken their time with him.” The extra time paid off today, as Fortuitous claimed the championship over Bridget Hallman’s Hear Say and Louise Serio. The hunters are in action tomorrow, as the First Year Green Hunter and the Adult Amateur 51 & Older Hunter championships are decided. Also, the top junior riders will compete in the WIHS Equitation Classic and the USEF Talent Search to try and qualify for the WEF Equitation Championship for the R.W. “Ronnie” Mutch trophy on March 12.
