Scott Stewart Starts Hunter Week at Winter Equestrian Festival With Usual Winning Form
This week’s hunter judges are Diane Grod, Patrick Rodes, Jimmy Torano, Kim Williams, Julie Winkle, and Tom Wright. Hunters in the Internationale Arena were scored by judges in three positions, and their scores were averaged for the final results. The Regular Conformation division opened up competition for the week, and the familiar face of Scott Stewart was in the winner’s circle for the model class. Tribute, owned by Krista Weisman, won the model class and received second place in the second over fences class. Winners over fences were Scott Stewart and Krista Weisman’s Chopard and Popeye K, ridden by Tommy Serio for Elizabeth Spencer, who was champion in the division for the first two weeks. The Regular Working Hunter class saw a new face receive the blue ribbon in the first over fences class. Firsthand and Robert Crandall, who rode for owner Selma Garber, had a strong score of 85.166 to stay in the lead, despite stiff competition. This tough competition included Scott Stewart again, riding Prove It for Alexa Weisman. Prove It and Stewart were second behind Crandall in the first over fences class, and had a high score of 88 to win the second class. Charlie Weaver handled the beautiful bay gelding, Cozzi, for owner Kelly Klein to the blue ribbon in the Green Conformation model class. It was no question that Without Question was the top horse over fences, after receiving second and first place ribbons with Rob Bielefeld, who rode for Regi Baker. Holly Orlando won the first over fences class with one of her three mounts, Rio Renoir, owned by Thomas Deibert. These division championships, along with the First and Second Year Green Working Hunters, will be decided tomorrow. The champions and reserve champions who win tomorrow are invited to show in this week’s main event, the AHJF Hunter Classic Spectacular of Palm Beach, on Saturday, February 19 at 7 p.m. Seventy-five First Year Green Hunters will compete in the Internationale Arena on Thursday, and the Amateur-Owner Hunters will begin competition as well. WEF Week Four Jumper Preview While the hunters take center stage this week, it is also a tremendously important week for jumper riders, as well.
