Top Dogs Honored at I Love New York Horse Show

Lake Placid, NY—July 11, 2005—A special treat at the I Love New York Horse Show was the 13th annual Doggie Costume Contest. This Lake Placid favorite took place on Saturday, July 9 and everyone with leashed dogs in costume were admitted to the horse show free of charge. Contestants strutted their stuff in a special ring set up near the horse show’s Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field at the North Elba Showgrounds.

The contest co-sponsors, the Lonesome Landing Garden Center of Saranac Lake and the Brown Dog Café and Wine Bar of Lake Placid, presented a number of awards to this year’s “top dogs.” New award categories for this year included “Best in Show – Horse Show Entry,” “Best in Show – Local Entry,” “Most Unusual,” “Most Personality,” and the top three “Overall Best.”

Selected by the judges as the Overall Winner of the Doggie Costume Contest and the Best in Show – Horse Show entry was the returning co-champion entry from 2004 of Fidget and Sarcel, owned by Charlotte and Melissa Jacobs. The pair, both 6-years-old, were dressed as the Budweiser Hitch.

The Best in Show – Local Entry, dressed as Pepe Le Pew, was Gabby, an 8-week-old Border Collie owned by Brenda Jock of Lake Placid.

Luxie, owned by Jennifer Reid, a 7-month-old Chihuahua from Wellington, FL, came as a Hunter Judge and won Second Overall and Most Unusual.

Wolfie and Tait, two Siberian Huskies owned by the Dorn Family of Plymouth, MA, came as South Pacific Siberians and performed the Hula! They took home Third Overall as well as the award for having the Most Personality.

Finally, The Lulu Award for the Funniest Costume went to Snip, a 10-year-old Jack Russell Corgi Mix owned by Garrison Keck of Greenwich, CT. Snip was dressed as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The Doggie Costume Contest was hosted by local television personality Mark Sudol of WPTZ News Channel 5 in Plattsburgh. Everyone had a “howling” good time in what has become one of the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows’ favorite traditions.
