Bridgehampton, NY-August 31, 2005-Two-time Olympic Silver medalist Anne Kursinski of Frenchtown, NJ topped a 51-horse field to win the Wall Street Journal Speed Class at the 30th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show.

Norman Dello Joio of Wellington, FL, Kursinski's 1992 Barcelona Olympic teammate, took the early lead in the class when he, riding fifth in the order, turned in a fault-free ride in 69.29 seconds on Quriel. Dello Joio, who won the individual Bronze medal at Barcelona, then watched as the next 46 horses tried to match his clean ride and beat his time.

None succeeded until Kursinski, riding 41st over the 15-jump course designed by Conrad Homfeld, took the ring on Lorenzo, a 12-year-old, bay gelding owned by Market Street. Kursinski, who went to four consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 through 1996, turned in the last of seven clean rides in the 1.45-meter class and claimed the win with the fastest time of 68.73 seconds.

"I have to tell you that he really was determined to win," Kursinski said. "I could tell from the second we entered the ring that he was focused and he was not going to be distracted by the wind, the big ring or anything else. "Going late is always good," Kursinki continued, "and it was good to get to see others go. But I really didn't change my plan from when I walked the course. It's just that he was determined and was going to do whatever it took to win."

Dello Joio's score on Quriel stood up for second and he also earned third with a clean ride in 70.06 seconds on Glasgow. One of the nation's premier show jumping competitions, the Hampton Classic features the sport's biggest names competing for big prize money.

Other competition highlights of this year's horse show include the $30,000 Sotheby's International Realty World Cup Qualifier and the Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby Qualifier on Friday and Cablevision's Kids Day/Dia de los Ninos, presented by Hickey Freeman, featuring the $25,000 Fendi Cup on Saturday. The following day, Grand Prix Sunday, features the $100,000 Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate Grand Prix and the $25,000 Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby. Grand Prix Sunday also features a dressage demonstration by six-time Olympic dressage rider Robert Dover, the most accomplished dressage rider in U.S. history!

Awards presentations take place on Sunday, including a gold and silver David Yurman belt buckle and a jeroboam of Louis Roederer Champagne to be awarded to the Grand Prix winner.

Hampton Classic admission is $10 per person or $20 per carload, with children under six admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, September 4 is $15 per person (in addition to regular admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections. Parking is free throughout the week. The Hampton Classic is a benefit event for Southampton Hospital.
