Samantha Hallman Sweeps Younger Adult Hunters
Despite arriving late last night in Buffalo, Samantha Hallman of Wellington, Florida, had no trouble showing early this morning. Hallman trains with Rob Bielefeld and competed three horses in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunter division. She came away with the lion’s share of prizes. She and her classically beautiful hunter Lucky won all four classes today. Hallman also picked up three second place ribbons with Lanstorm, and ribbons on a new mount for her, C.C. Bloom. Lanstorm ended up with the reserve championship. “Lucky was great,” she explained. “I haven’t ridden him in two weeks, so I kind of walked in here and got back on him.” “It’s good to have him feeling well,” she said with a smile. “It’s been a long year, some ups, some downs, so it’s good to have him back.” Lanstorm is not a new mount for Hallman, and he is a great horse to ride first in a class. “He’s just a gentleman. He’s always going to do his job. I always use him first, because I know he’s going to be good to me. Then, hopefully, that will turn into me being good on Lucky!” She has not shown extensively this summer, but said that BIHS was an important stop before the indoor final show, Capital Challenge. “It’s a great warm-up, because we don’t do a whole lot of indoor shows,” Hallman mentioned. Hallman has shown at BIHS for the past four years to prepare for “Indoors.” “It’s such a boutique environment,” she went on to say. “They’re totally going to tailor make everything for you. They make sure the ring looks great and the courses ride well. There are no tricks- they’re trying to make everyone go well.” In the Adult Amateur 36 & Over division, it was hometown riders that came away with the tricolors. Merideth Lipke Bartolone, who is the committee chairwoman for BIHS, rode her fancy bay gelding Once and Again. Bartolone is from Buffalo and won two classes on today’s schedule. She and Once and Again also picked up a second and a third place to give them the championship. Trish Bookbinder, from Cazenovia, NY, rode her typey bay gelding Tell the Truth. They won one class and had three second place finishes for the reserve championship. The Adult Amateur Hunters were then invited to return for another round to count as their second trip in the $500 Adult Hunter Classic. After a high score of 83, the class was determined. Beth Lynn and Sooner came away with the win and had a total score of 163. She and the adorable bay gelding finished nine points ahead of the second place finisher. Lynn and Sooner have been partnered for five years and have trained at SBS Farms for the entire time. Lynn is also from Buffalo, NY and loves showing at the BIHS. “The ring is great to ride in. It’s nice and big, and the place is wonderful. So many good things happen here, and it’s good to support it.” The Buffalo International Horse Show is one of the largest fundraisers for the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center. BTRC currently offers programs for mentally and emotionally impaired, learning disabled, and developmentally challenged children ages 6 to 16. Official Results: $500 Adult Hunter Classic
Highlights for tomorrow’s show are the conclusion of the Junior Hunter and Pony Hunter divisions. At 6 p.m., BIHS will host a $2,000 Handy Hunter Classic and a $1,500 Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic.
