Saugerties, NY - August 25, 2004 - HITS-on-the-Hudson, the newest horse show grounds for the Saugerties, New York-based Horse Shows In The Sun, is about to end the season with the final week of competition, September 1 - 5, 2004. The horse show resumes on Wednesday, September 1st with over 1,000 horses and 2,000 horsemen competing in 250 hunter and jumper classes that will culminate with the $75,000 HITS-on-the-Hudson Grand Prix Sunday, September 5.

Horse Shows In The Sun (HITS) is pleased to announce that it will hold its first annual Seniors Day, presented by Ulster Publishing, Saturday, September 4 from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Seniors Day pays tribute to all senior citizens by providing them free admission to the horse show grounds for a host of fun activities. Senior citizens will also receive free programs and posters. Parking is always free.

Senior Citizens will be able to take a free tour of the show grounds in golf carts, operated by volunteers from Family of Woodstock, so they can see the top-level show jumping competition taking place. Bleacher seating is available at all of the rings. There is also indoor and outdoor seating available at the restaurant that overlooks the action. The ten different arenas are sure to offer something for everyone.

The following organizations will present special programs on Seniors Day for the enjoyment of our senior visitors: Volunteers from the Ulster County SPCA will be bring along a dog for petting and adoption; Care-A-Van will offer blood pressure and hearing checks; Mid-Hudson Interpreting Services will teach sign language; SeniorNet coordinator Jack Kahn will present a lecture on SeniorNet and what you can do with computers at noon and senior participation is encouraged in a hands-on project presented by Michael's Arts and Crafts store. In addition, The Family Lodge, Ulster County Office for the Aging, Ulster Home Health Services, Resource Center for Accessible Living, Taconic Resources for Independence, RSVP volunteer group, and many more will be on hand to provide information and literature about their services.

Shoppers can stroll along Vendor Row, which houses Mercedes-Benz, and a variety of boutiques selling jewelry, watches, custom saddlery and tack, souvenirs, custom boots and shoes, and unique clothing with an equestrian flare.

HITS produced its first series of horse shows - a three-week circuit in Gainesville, Florida - in 1982. In addition to a National Finals horse show in Worcester, Massachusetts, HITS produces five circuits consisting of six to seven weeks each - Ocala Winter Circuit in Florida; Indio Desert Circuit in California; Arizona Winter Circuit in Tucson; HITS Culpeper in Virginia; and HITS-on-the Hudson in New York. Individually, each is a first rate horse show circuit; collectively, they represent the largest group of equestrian events under a single management group in the United States.
