Clara Lindner And Priceless Win Amateur-Owner Hunter 18-35 Championship, Section A

Clara Lindner and Priceless Win Amateur-Owner Hunter 18-35 Championship Photo by Randi MusterWellington, FL - January 31, 2004 - "My horses are all really good in the mud, actually, they're used to it. We've been in the mud a lot," said Clara Lindner, 18, of Cincinnati, Ohio, winner of the Amateur-Owner Hunter 18-35 Championship, Section A, at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, today. Rains that commenced yesterday and continued throughout the day in the 'Sunshine State' created soupy conditions, but did not hinder Ms. Lindner's performances. "It's a little harder. Everything is a little slower and we get stuck in there some times, but my horses are all generally really good with it." Ms. Lindner brought six horses from her family's All Seasons Farm to the Winter Equestrian Festival and earned the Championship aboard Priceless, an eight-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding that she's owned and ridden for two years. Ms. Lindner trains with Tom Wright. Kilkenny Insurance Agency/ICH sponsors the Amateur-Owner Working Hunter Division.

With 50 entries, the A-O Hunter 18-35 Championship was divided into two 25-horse sections, A and B; each group competed in four over-fences classes and one under saddle class over two days in the Grand Hunter Field to determine the Champion for each section. Ms. Lindner, a senior in high school, is currently commuting between Wellington and Cincinnati, but will show three back-to-back weekends next month. With Priceless, Ms. Lindner placed second in her first over-fences class, was out of the ribbons in the second class yesterday and the first class today, and then won the under saddle and today's over-fences class to clinch the Championship. "My first round was very consistent," she explained, noting that Priceless can usually claim the tricolor, "if you can get three good ribbons over jumps. He's very dependable for the under saddle because he's a really good mover so he is usually first or second in that." She also credits her horse's temperament in the successful partnership. "He has a really good personality. He loves to play with you. He's really sweet and he loves attention."

The championship was an especially rewarding win for Ms. Lindner as it was her debut in the Amateur-Owners. "I feel really good about it. It's my first show in the Amateurs so it's a great way to start. I'm really happy with it."

Seven rings were in action today at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club show grounds, despite the rain. Three classes were scheduled for the grass Internationale Arena, but in order to protect the field from wear and tear under the soaking conditions, the Junior Jumper High class and the Seniors Time First Jump-off class were moved to other rings. The $20,000 1.50 Meter Classic will be re-scheduled in the Internationale Arena at a later date.
