Hunters Take Center Stage This Week
Wellington, FL February 12, 2003 The first day of the World Championship Hunter Rider Spectacular week of the Winter Equestrian Festival was a warm wonderful day full of great show horses competing under sunny skies. On the Grand Prix field the Regular Conformation horses, led the way with a Model Class which was won by Chopard, handled by Scott Stewart and owned by Alexa Weisman. There was a Model Green Conformation, then the over fence classes began. This is the first time for these horses to show on the big international grass field as opposed to their traditional hunter show rings. Saturday nights big Hunter Classic will be held on this field under lights and the champions and reserve champions of this weeks competition will qualify to compete. Strapless ridden by Emily Williams and owned by All Seasons Farm/Clara Lindner won two over fence classes in the Regular Working Hunters today and will most likely qualify herself. Strapless is the defending Champion of the World Championship Hunter Classic and the only horse to have won this Classic two times. Chopard with Scott Stewart won one of the over fence classes for the Regular Conformation Hunters and Hollywood won the other. Hollywood is ridden by Tim Goguen and owned by Paula Polk Lilard. Moulin Rouge ridden by T. Whitehead won 2 of the over fence classes in the Second Year Green Hunter division.
Tomorrow beginning at 8:00 AM in the International Arena, the 2 sections of First Year Green Hunters will get their chance to perform on the grass. All results are posted daily at www.stadiumjumping.com. |
