Bridgehampton, NY — September 1, 2002 — Amateur show jumping talent was showcased with the $25,000 Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby at the 27th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY.

Kristy McCormack of Lakewood, NY, was the big winner in the Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby, a member event of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, riding off with $7,500 in prize money for her performance riding Marga. Of the 27 riders who started, six advanced to the jump-off. Second-last to ride in the jump-off, McCormack posted a clear round in a time of 32.79 seconds. The final rider in the ring, junior competitor Krista Freundlich of Locust, NJ, gave it her best shot with Laurin but fell short when the timers stopped in 33.85 seconds.

Open to Junior riders age 18 and under and Amateur-Owner riders, the top 30 riders from Friday’s $7,500 Hampton Classic Derby Welcome Stake qualified for Sunday’s $25,000 Calvin Klein Derby. Freundlich was Thursday’s winner while McCormack placed third.

For the third year, the Hampton Classic Horse Show hosted the Young Jumper Championships, Eastern League Finals, showcasing the nation’s top developing show jumping horses. In the $30,000 Six-Year-Old Young Jumper Championship, Lauren Hough of Wellington, FL, was unstoppable, taking the top two spots. The six-year-old Oldenburg mare, Outsider who is by the Oldenburg stallion, Celano, and out of a Hanoverian mare, was the winner. Bred in Germany by Bernhard Rensen, Outsider is owned by Anne Emmet of Oldwick, NJ.

Hough was second riding Buena Vista Farm’s Winniepoo, a German-bred gelding by the Hanoverian stallion, World Man 6. Olympic Silver Medalist Peter Leone of Franklin Lakes, NJ, took third place riding Casadora, Samantha Will’s Dutch Warmblood mare by Indoctro.

In the hunter ring, Stormy Good of New York, NY, claimed the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic riding Shameless while Caitlin Donovan, also of New York, was the runner-up with Legend.

The Hampton Classic Horse Show is one of the nation’s premier show jumping competitions. Many of the world’s top equestrians are competing for more than $250,000 in prize money during the Classic, which benefits the Southampton Hospital. Each day of the show is devoted to special events and social activities, culminating with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix on Sunday, September 1. In addition to the competition, spectators will be treated to a variety of other exciting exhibits including the Boutique Garden’s numerous vendor booths, Stable Row’s 20 booths, three on-site public restaurants, and an Exhibition Horse/Children’s area open throughout the week.

The Hampton Classic continues through Sunday, September 1. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload per day, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, September 1, is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person for premium front-row seating. Parking throughout the show is free.
