Phase I - Flatwork

Riders are first judged on the flat. In Phase I they are asked to demonstrate knowledge of the elementary principles of dressage training, which affect a show jumper's performance.

To be judged in both directions at the working walk, working trot sitting, working trot rising, working trot showing a lengthening of stride, working canter, working canter on the counter lead, and working canter showing a lengthening of stride.

To be judged on the rider's position and seat, and the correct effect of the aids. Judges may require additional tests and are not confined to AHSA Tests 1-19.
