An exuberant Trevor Coyle could hardly contain himself during the awards presentation after his exciting victory at the Aachen Grand Prix, June 20, 1999. As he began to prepare for his victory round, Ludger Beerbaum alerted him to the fact there were still more awards to be presented. "Trevor, enjoy the moment" Beerbaum said. Visibly somber the entire week due to the impending retirement of Ratina Z, Beerbaum, who finished fifth, finally cracked a smile, clearly happy for the popular Irishman's first trip to the CHIO Aachen Grand Prix winner's circle.

Trevor Coyle and his 14-year-old Irish stallion Cruising had the only clear round in the four-horse jump-off that decided the class. For Coyle, Sunday's win was the realization of a long-held goal. "This was the biggest ambition I've ever had," he said. "You see the name of the previous winners on the wall here and that has always inspired me to scribble my name up there."

Coyle's win brings with it the DM 100,000 first place purse from the Grand Prix, which is sponsored by the Aachener und Munchener Versicherungen. It also brings a $25,000 U.S. bonus for winning one of the three Grand Prix that make up the Pulsar Crown.

Anne Kursinski of the U.S., who was riding for her second Pulsar Crown win, but unfortunately, a rail at the second last fence in the jump-off cost her the win and left her in second place. She does, however, still have another chance to increase her Pulsar Crown earnings with a win at the Grand Prix of Valkenswaard in August.
