FACTS!
- The Portuguese Riding School and
also the centre of the Lusitano
Horse is 260 years old. The development
of classical riding schools and
the use of horses for the hunting
of wild bulls influenced the breed
of the Lusitano. German trainer
Martina Hannover is working with
the Portuguese for the last several
years. She emphasizes the basics.
Rodrigo Torres is the world champion
of Work Equitation
- Being the first international
competition held in Lisbon, the
capital of Portugal, the CDI3* proved
a great success in all respects.
The venue used for the CDI was the
almost centenary (1910-2005) Sociedade
Hípica Portuguesa which has the
best grass arena in the country.
The main dressage events took place
in this arena and the smaller classes
were held in the sand arena. The
weather also helped with beautiful
sunny and warm days, so the Portuguese
were fortunate in that, many spectators
turned out to support the CDI. Both
judges and riders enjoyed a deligthful
three days of top dressage classes,
and benefitted from an impecable
organization that went to considerable
lengths to make this event a success
- Grand Prix-winner Guizo showed
by Juan Antonio Gimenez was a member
of the Olympic silver medal winning
Spanish team in Athens 2004
