Stage is Set for World's Greatest Horseman Finals
Amarillo National Center, Amarillo, Texas - June 6, 2003 - The preliminaries of the National Reined Cow Horse Association's World's Greatest Horseman, presented by Western Horseman, have been completed and the field of finalists decided. Finishing at the top of the pack in the first round was Todd Bergen on Nic It In The Bud, owned by Arcese Enterprises and Eric Storey of Henagar, Alabama. Bergen scored 142 in the herd, 148.5 in the rein work, and 146 in the steer stopping. He also won the cow work preliminaries with a 150. That score earned a buckle from Terry Stuart Forst of Stuart Ranch in Waurika, Oklahoma as well as a Rambo Turnout Sheet from Horseware Ireland. It also gave him a composite of 586.5, which led the field by 5.5 points. Finishing second in the prelims was Jon Roeser and his Chex Out This Remedy. Roeser scored 146 in the herd, 145 in the rein work, 146 in the steer stopping and 144 in the cow work. At third is Ron Ralls on Cowgirls Are Smart, owned by Jim Babcock of Gainesville, Texas, with 148, 145, 140 and 147.5 In his quartet of competition. Those three lead a field of eleven finalists. As most cow horse fans know, winning almost always comes down to the cow work and the stage is set for an exciting cow work finale which will be held during the Coors Ranch Rodeo on Saturday night. The last three to go in the cow work finals will be the trio of Roeser, Bergen and Ralls! The World's Greatest herd work Finals begin on Saturday at 9 am. Total payoff for the event is $120,000.
