Stakes 2003 - Day Two Action
Scottsdale, Arizona - March 27, 2003 On Thursday at the National Reined Cow Horse Stakes, Randy Paul rode Dominican Starlight to a sizzling score of 222 in the rein work to take that lead as well as move into the composite lead. A score of 218 the day before in the herd made the Grays Starlight son the clear leader, overall, with a score of 440. Dominican Starlight is owned by Pat Warren of Scottsdale and the stallion is one that Paul and Warren had chosen to stand at Warren's Rancho Oso Rio. This duo is leading the Intermediate Open composite, as well. Todd Bergen rode Reminic Moon Shine, a gelding son of Reminic out of Lenas Lacy Moon to a 221.5 marking in the rein work, earning second for owner Vaughn Zimmerman. Moving into second place in the composite with a score of 439.5 (223, 216.5) was Jon Roeser on RSP Smart Remedy 399, a stallion by Smart Little Lena (X Remedys Response) owned by Clear Lake Land and Cattle Ranch. In the Intermediate Open division, Brad Buttrey and Oak Ill Be, a mare by Ill Be Smart (X Gypsy Oak) owned by Joanie Cohn, is currently ranked second in the composite with a 436.5 (218, 218.5). In the Limited Open, Shadd Parkinson rode Starznic, a Grays Starlight son owned by Debra and Dorn Parkinson, to the lead for the second day in a row, marking 220.5 in the rein work for a 430.5 total. Dema Paul continues to dominate the Non Pro 4-year-old Stakes on Primos Bob Acre, a mare by Teninas First out of Bob Acre Angelina that she owns with her husband Jim Paul. They had the highest herd work of the event - a 224, then came back with a 219 in the rein work to lead all Non Pros with a composite of 443. Annie Reynolds is next in the Non Pro composite with a score of 434.5 on Hickory McLain (Docs Hickory). In the 50K Non Pro, Michelle Cowan posted a 216 on Neat Starlight (Grays Starlight X Neat Prescription) to lead Terry Christiansen on TC Lena with a 214.5. But Christian leads the 50K composite on the Lenas Wright On stallion with a 426.5 total. In Amateur 4-Year-Old Stakes action, William Cowan rode Almosta Boom to the high rein work score, but Dave Archer was still leading the composite with a 416.5 total. Action continues in Scottsdale on Friday with the cow Work in all divisions of the NRCHA Stakes.
