National Reining Breeders Classic Looks Ahead

reiningThe vote is in from the FEI general Assembly, Reining is in! With the announced move of next year's National Reining Breeders Classic Show to Katy, Texas, the organization has moved into a new phase. For the directors and management of the National Reining Breeders Classic, the year 2001 has been a long-awaited landmark.

"Oh-one"will be the first year that the highly successful stallion incentive program begins to reach maturity. That’s testament to it’s longevity - the program will be four years old - but even more impressive is the fact that the NRBC show will offer added money that approaches the half million dollar mark at the April 18-22 show.

That’s entirely new ground for the reining world. NRBC Board Chairman, Tom McCutcheon, explained, " Our goal, when we created the NRBC, was to create a large money reining event to enhance the value of reining horses. We’ve already seen that this is the case with breeders reporting a demand for enrolled foals."

With its inception, the NRBC became reining’s largest added money event. And the NRBC continues to grow. With over 200 stallions in the program, yearly foal enrollment rosters have expanded regularly and this year’s foal enrollments are projected to approach 2000.

Momentum for the entire program is escalating. Peggy Nail, of the NRBC office, reported that the number of early foal enrollments has exceeded that of years past. "By mid-summer, we were already getting calls from people who wanted lists of enrolled foals." Nail added that new computer programs slated to be put into place over coming months will make NRBC information and lists of qualified horses more readily available.

Meanwhile, the headquarters office of the National Reining Breeders Classic has relocated, as well. Newly moved to Oklahoma, under the supervision of Jeff & Cheryl Magoteaux’s Promotion Management company, the NRBC headquarters are now housed in the Promotion Management office building on Highway 177, north of Stratford, Oklahoma.

Cheryl Magoteaux has been involved with the NRBC since its inception, handling a variety of media, promotional and management duties. She explained, "Cubby Dunn, who had been the NRBC program director for the past few years was an important part of our growth. When Cubby resigned, we were lucky that we had space in our office to accomodate the NRBC, and were able to provide staffing. Because I had been so closely involved with the organization from the beginning, it seemed natural to have it close at hand."

The move was accomplished with a minimum of disruption in day-to-day service. Magoteaux explained, "We moved the office on June 17 and on the 19th, we were up and running in the new location. Some things took longer because we had to go through boxes to find the right information, but for the most part, the move was smooth."

NRBC Director Tim McQuay said, "We are extremely fortunate to have Jeff and Cheryl Magoteaux overseeing the NRBC office functions. Their experience in management and in promotion will help keep the NRBC focused in the right direction."
