Turfway Park and Keeneland Headline Sponsors of 2004 All-Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show

"Seabiscuit" Star Rich In Dallas On Hand To Meet Fans

May 7, 2004 - Millersburg, KY - For the fourth consecutive year, ReRun, Inc. and New Vocations Racehorse Adoption programs will co-host the All-Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show to be held on Saturday, June 5 at Turfway Park. The Keeneland Association and Turfway Park have signed on as headline sponsors, with Churchill Downs again participating as a major sponsor. Early commitments to class sponsorships include Cambus-Kenneth Farm, Cobra Farm, Cornerstone Stables, Darley at Jonabell and Denali Stud.

Fans of the movie Seabiscuit will be treated to a chance to meet Rich In Dallas, one of 10 horses that portrayed the famous racehorse on the big screen. Rich In Dallas was the horse that carried Tobey Maguire full-tilt across a stone bridge, across an open field and through brilliant fall foliage in the scene filmed at historic Xalapa Farm near Paris, Kentucky. "Seabiscuit" will make scheduled appearances throughout the day.

Rich In Dallas returned to racing after the filming of Seabiscuit, but was retired after an anonymous donor put up money to claim the gelding on March 20. He was then donated to the Exceller Fund, an internet-based group dedicated to the rescue of racehorses. After a two-month rest in Kentucky where he will make an appearance at the kickoff party for Old Friends, (an equine rescue for elderly stallions and mares of note) as well as his appearance at the All-Thoroughbred Horse Show, Rich In Dallas will move to his permanent retirement home at ReRun's educational facility in Maryland.

The showbill and entry forms for the Turfway show have been released, with a total of 49 classes carded. As in the past, classes will include everything from dressage, hunter/jumper and English and Western to costume, games and in-hand classes where injuries are not considered, as well as special classes for horses that have been procured through adoption programs. The 2004 show will offer $5,000 in prize money.

Back by popular demand are the "War Horse" classes, which feature ex-racehorses who have made at least 50 starts or earned upwards of $100,000 on the track.

The concept of providing a show where only Thoroughbreds compete has proven such a popular one with riders whose breed of choice is the Thoroughbred that ReRun, Inc. will also host an East Coast All-Thoroughbred Show at the New Jersey Horse Park on September 25, 2004. This will be the third year for the New Jersey show.

"The All-Thoroughbred Shows have gained popularity each year, drawing more and more competitors and spectators," explained Shon Wylie, executive director of ReRun, Inc., based in Kentucky. "Our goal is to get as many people as possible to come out an see what these horses can do off the track. We hope that giving the public a chance to meet a movie star will bring a great number of people out to the show, and further the cause of ex-racehorses everywhere."

As in 2003, a variety of vendors will be on-site, as well as representatives from other humane and rescue organizations such as The Exceller Fund, Old Friends and the Greyhound Adoption of Greater Cincinnati program.
