More
than 2,600 Attend 10th Anniversary Fun
NTRA
Racing Experience, Jerry Diaz, Horseback Rides Contribute To Weekend
Amarillo,
Texas - A total of 2,659 patrons crammed through the gates of the American
Quarter Horse Heritage Center & Museum in Amarillo, Texas last weekend
to help celebrate the organization's 10th year of existence. On Saturday,
1,200 people attended and on Sunday, 1,459 people were on hand for the
day's events. Sunday ranked as the Museum's second largest day by attendance
while Saturday marked the fifth largest.
"We couldn't
be more pleased with the way people responded to our celebration," said
Patti Colbert, Senior Director of the American Quarter Horse Foundation.
"It proved a couple of things to us. First, people want to get horseback.
The time slots for our free rides filled very early on both days and
virtually everyone who rode praised the activity. Secondly, if you promise
people a good time - and deliver on that promise - they will respond."
On both
days, the NTRA Racing Experience was parked at the museum for people
to enjoy. Additionally, there were American Quarter Horses that provided
free rides, a WRCA junior ranch rodeo, Miss Rodeo America Tara Graham,
Jerry Diaz the "Charro de Corazon," Devin Dawson the singing voice of
"Jessie" from Toy Story 2 and two dancing troupes that accounted for
the near-record crowds.
On Friday
evening, the Museum hosted more than 100 VIPs for a special "pre-celebration
party." Among the attendees was AQHA Past President Clarence Scharbauer
Jr and his wife Dorothy. Scharbauer was President of AQHA in 1975 and
his wife Dorothy and daughter Pamela owned 1987 Kentucky Derby winner
Alysheba.
