The
Long Riders' Guild
For Equestrian Explorers
The
Long Riders' Guild, is the first international association of equestrian
explorers and long distance travellers who have ridden at least one
thousand continuous miles. The Guild was started to promote equestrian
travel all over the world. We already have more than a hundred members
who live in a total of 24 countries, and between them they have ridden
on every continent except Antarctica.
Here are a few examples of our Members and their journeys:
Louis Brunkhe (American) and Vladimir Fissenko (Russian) rode 18,000
miles from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska
Adnan Azzam (Syrian) rode from Madrid to Mecca
Jean-Louis Gouraud (French) rode from Paris to Moscow
George Patterson (Scottish) rode across Tibet in 1946 and helped rescue
the Dalai Lama from the advancing Chinese.
Manfred Schultz (German) has just finished an epic around-the-world
trip with his horses.
Sharon Muir Watson and her husband, Ken Roberts (Australian), the first
people to ride the 5,000 kilometre Bicentennial National Trail Down
Under.
Eduard Chautard (New Caledonian), the first person to ride the perimeter
of that island.
Nathan (Canadian) and Elly (Swedish) Foote, who rode from Patagonia
to Alaska.
And here are a few examples of some of our Members who are out travelling
at this moment:
Laura Bougault (French) is currently riding across Africa.
Howard Saether (Norwegian) and his wife Janja Kovacic (Slovenian) are
riding from Uruguay to Texas.
Guenter Wamser and Barbara Kohmanns (German) are riding from Patagonia
to Alaska.
Eduardo Discoli (Argentinean) is travelling from Buenos Aires to New
York.
Mary Pagnamenta (British) is riding up both islands of New Zealand.
Our website (www.thelongridersguild.com)
has more information about equestrian travel than has ever been gathered
together in human history. The thirst for this information has now spread
to France and Germany: we have sister websites in French (www.worldtrailrides.com)
and German (www.weitreitergilde.de).
Now we have set up the world's first publishing company to specialise
in classic equestrian travel books. Our first sixty titles (including
"Tschiffely's Ride") are now available in three languages
under the imprint of The Long Riders' Guild Press. These are "print
on demand" books, which means that never again will they go out
of print! By the end of 2003 we hope to be able to offer every equestrian
travel book that has ever been published, in every language - we think
there are 400-500 of them.
The Long Riders' Guild is trying to locate more Long Riders, to document
their journeys and to encourage future equestrian expeditions. They
would like to hear from you!
