February 2005 - Welcome to the first of our regular newsletters that will bring you news from Galway Downs throughout the year. Our first issue features an update on our calendar events for 2005 which begins with the highlight of our spring season: the Galway Downs International Horse Trials to be held on April 1-3rd near Temecula, California. This premier event is worth $15,000 in prize money and features a FEI World Cup Qualifier as well as being part of the United States Eventing Association (USEA ) Gold Cup Series. Now in its 8th year, Galway Downs will be offering twelve divisions running concurrently through the three days of competition from Novice to FEI World Cup level with the International (CIC) Two-star class incorporating the Gold Cup Series. Galway Downs, host to a FEI World Cup Qualifier for the past two years, is one of only four FEI World Cup Qualifiers in the country in which riders will be vying for a place in the final to be held in Malmo, Sweden from August 11-14th, 2005. Galway Downs joins an elite selection of nine venues nationwide to host a Gold Cup Series and is one of four in the Pacific Group. The Gold Cup Series, presented by the USEA) offer competitors an opportunity to earn points towards the title of Gold Cup Champion at intermediate and advanced level. Organizer, Robert Kellerhouse, said, “Our event has grown enormously since it started in 1998 and it’s particularly exciting to host both an FEI World Cup Qualifier and now a national qualifier for the new Gold Cup Series. We’re enormously grateful to our sponsors for enabling the event to achieve this status.” These include :
Galway Downs is very grateful to the Poway Valley Pony Club, www.pvra.com for its support as well as the Santa Fe Hunt, which also holds its annual Picnic in the Green and auction at the April event. We are proud to support the R.E.I.N.S. Organization (Riding Emphasizing Individual Needs and Strengths), www.reinsprogram.org whose mission is to provide physical, mental, and emotional therapy to a wide range of disabled children and adults through the use of carefully supervised horseback riding. Daily race training, and weekend English and Western competitions makes Galway Downs truly a multi use equestrian facility. We are grateful to the new ownership for the opportunity to keep this unique equestrian facility open for all to enjoy. 2005 Calendar
