Event Rider, Leslie Law Coaching Californians at NAYRC Amber Heintzberger
"There's a good standard here," said Law, who coaches European gold medal-winning Young Rider Kylie Roddy at home in England. "It's similar to the Europeans with the team atmosphere. I think the main difference is that the footing is harder here." Another difference that he noted is that riders in Europe can get a lot more mileage because events are closer together. "We're going to the Scottish Championships next weekend and it's a six-hour drive," he said. "That's nothing compared to the distances you have to travel here."
Law is still celebrating his recent engagement to rider Trina Lightwood, who is keeping his horses fit while he spends the week in America. "She's excellent at taking care of the fitness, and Kylie is working with us full time too. There are two or three other students helping out. I owe a lot to the team at home." Law has two horses on the list for the World Equestrian Games in Spain. He had worked with the Californians several times before, including at a summer camp. "I'd love to do it again," he said. "I'm already looking forward to next year at Bromont." Horsesdaily "On the Scene at the 2002 NAYRC |
