Woodlands Equestrian Centre Loses Everything to Oklahoma Fires September 22, 2000 - Woodlands Equestrian Centre, owned by Joan, David, and Laura Harris in Edmond, Oklahoma lost everything last week to the ferocious fires that have been raging through the state. With barely enough time to remove themselves and their 10 horses, they left their 160 acre property which was totally destroyed, including homes, barns, equipment, tack, fencing, and their entire cross country course. Over 100 fires were burning at one time last week was fuelled by a record drought of over fifty days and with forty mile an hour winds. Know for their hard work, kindness and generosity, the Harris family has dedicated their farm, time and resources promoting the sport of eventing in their area. Last May Woodlands Equestrian Centre held the first and only recognized ASHA/USCTA Horse Trials in Oklahoma, through preliminary. They have also featured quality clinics with trainers such as Lucinda Green, Pat Burgess, and Kerry Milliken. "They helped people like my family find quality horses at affordable prices and have gone out of their way to offer helpful advice at schooling shows when they didn't have to. " Reports BC Gardner. "My heart just aches for this family who have done so much and worked so hard to bring quality eventing to Oklahoma." Spirits are high, and work is already underway to rebuild. Heart Ranch Farm will be having a schooling show as a fundraiser, taking entries as donations for those who cannot compete. These are really good down to earth folks who could use a boost and
