US Eventing Team coach 1961-1967
Major
Stefan Visy, a successful Eventing rider, coach and judge,
died recently in Salzburg, Austria, aged 94.
A
farmer's son, Visy began his military career as 10 years old
when he entered the Cadet School. At the Hungarian Cavalry
School of Örkeny Tabor he became a riding instructor.
In
1936 he rode for Hungary in the 3-Day Event of the Olympic
Games in Berlin. After World War II, in 1956, he came as riding
instructor to Austria. In 1961 he came to the USA to be the
Coach of the US Eventing Team. During the six years as USET
coach the American eventers won, at one Pan American and one
Olympic Games, five medals.
In
1975 Visy went back to Austria where he officiated for over
ten years as judge in all three riding disciplines.
