The
80 Mile Endurance Ride at The 2001 USET Festival of Champions:
Aleser
and Bie-Kin
Greenall
found Aleser turned out in a pasture. "We are talking pasture potato
here," she noted. He was unbroken until the age of eight, but she
knew his sire had foaled some very good endurances horses. So, she took
the chance. Now five years later she's glad for the find.
Greenall
talks kindly about her 15-hand mount she's spent the past four years
developing into a distance horse. "He's got a great personality.
He's very easy and the most willing sweet horse. I can put kids on him.
He's very relaxed and doesn't get wrapped up in anything going on around
him. He doesn't waste any energy and he's extremely comfortable to ride.
So, it's very easy for me. I start out riding him on the buckle."
Aleser
is also "full figured," explains Greenall. "He eats from
the minute he gets into the hold until he leaves. He's a great believer
in food."
Bejarano's
horse Bie-Kin was not far behind Greenall at the finish in 12 hours,
35 minutes and 58 seconds. Her nine-year-old bay Arabian gelding was
bred and raised in Canada and had a good start in endurance riding before
Bejarano started with him.
