2007 Dressage at Devon Presented by WT Direct Micaela Mabragana and Jocelyn Wiese are Young Rider Winners at 2007 Dressage at Devon By Lynndee Kemmet for Dressagedaily.com
Wiese is clearly on a roll in life. Not only did she have a great showing at Devon but she also has new job – assistant trainer to Chris Hickey at Hilltop Farm. “I’m now part of the Hilltop Team,” Wiese said. “When opportunities like this come up, you have to jump on them. This is a brand new job. I got hired right after the Young Riders Championships.” Wiese said it was her previous trainer, Pam Goodrich, with whom she still stays in close contact, who helped get her the Hilltop job. This year was Wiese’s second time showing at Devon but her first with Lamborghini, an 11-year-old Danish gelding by Michellino that has the barn name of “Zoomie.” And quick he is – or was. Wiese said a reduction in feed, more turnout time and an overall change in routine has made the horse a much easier ride. “Today, my horse was really relaxed. There were no mistakes,” she said. “We had kind of a tough summer with his energy level and he got a little nervous in the arena so, I was very happy to come in today and have a clean ride.” Mabragana got her win on Granada (by Granit out of Valencia), an 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding owned by Sam Grunkorn. She gave thanks to Grunkorn for being so willing to share. “The owner rides him, but he’s very generous and he let’s me ride him and show him,” Mabragana said. When asked if they had plans for the future, she said, “We don’t have a plan. We’re just having fun together.” Mabragana is from Argentina and is based with Lendon Gray. Although she hopes to one day represent Argentina in international competition, she has no plans to go home soon saying she hopes eventually to have a Green Card so she can remain in the U.S. She’s been riding Granada since April and couldn’t have been happier with his performance at Devon. “We had really nice moments. I was really happy with his attitude today. I just had such fun,” she said. “My first halt was very good and when I trotted off, it just felt really good.” |
