Young Rider Lindsay Challenges Her Elders in USEF National Dressage Championships

Williams Coaches Both Sisters

George WilliamsMargee Koffler was the one who stirred the girls’ interest in dressage. A former hunter/jumper rider who turned to three-day eventing, she was taking dressage instructions. Reese saw it and decided that was her. Lindsay, had been a hunter/jumper rider up to that time but she, too, “fell in love with dressage and stayed with it.” She got her first Young Riders horse from Belinda Nairn Wertman who introduced her to her present mount.

“Belinda invited me to her farm one weekend and had me sit on `Alf.’ The minute I did I knew he was to be my horse.”

Lindsay and her German bred gelding work with their present coach, George Willliams, who would drive down from his Ohio base to train the Koffler sisters on Sunday. While he is campaigning two Grand Prix horses at Gladstone, he takes time to coach Lindsay at the show.

“He is wonderful and gives Reese and me lessons, then stays for Sunday dinner when he goes to their home,” points out Lindsay. That includes Alf and Reese’s new, young horse she is preparing to replace her former Grand Prix horse she sold.
