Mimi Lufkin and Bop n' Jazz Show the Way

Mimi Lufkin and Bop n' Jazz showed how a 6-year old Suitability to Become a Dressage Horse class is to be won at the 2004 Dressage at Devon Breed Show. Judged by the German Hanoverian stallion committee member Dr. Ludwig Christmann, Lufkin and Bop n' Jazz excelled in their general rideability.

"I liked his rideability very much," Dr Christmann said. "This horse was very well presented. He had three good basic gaits and gave a very good impression. The other horses in the class lacked in their level of training compared to the winner."

Mimi Lufkin and her bay Swedish warmblood gelding Bop n' Jazz (Amiral x Zorn) were a pair that stood out in the 6-year old suitability class. The horse was uphill, on the bit and in balance during his performance, while Lufkin maintained a light and steady contact with the bit.

"He's a little hot, but in a good way," Lufkin commented. "He's spectacular in that way and has a lot of brilliance. He is a horse that has much suspension and goes off the ground. He's like riding a cloud."

Lufkin bred Bop n' Jazz herself out of her own mare Zest. Her choice for sire Amiral was based on Major Anders Lindgren's opinion. Lindgren is a well known Swedish instructor who conducted many USDF instructor seminars together with Violet Hopkins. "Major Lindgren knew Zest, so when I decided to breed her, I called him and he decided on Amiral right away."

Lufkin, who trains with Jessica Ransehousen in the summer and with Kathy Connelly in the winter, has bred her dream horse. "I've been breeding for 30 years now and Bop n' Jazz is the horse I've been trying to get," Lufkin said. "My aim is to go to Grand Prix and having lots of fun doing it."
