Deaton-Iwen Kicks Off 2001 Dressage at Devon

The 2001 Dressage at Devon Performance Classes kicked off Thursday September 27, 2001, with the Open Prix St Georges. The class was divided into group A and B due to the many entries and it took all day to wrap up the complete division. In group A, Kimberly Deaton-Iwen excelled aboard her German bred Grand Derneburg. Scoring the highest with all three judges, she received 68.083%. Judges Steiner, McMullen and Hess saw potential in Grand Derneburg, who is by Glueckspilz out of Dornrose. Their score granted rider Deaton-Iwen and Grand Derneberg the top score of both groups.

Although young rider Jessica Rizzi took a strong stand with 64.830%, Deaton-Iwen fended her fended off brilliantly with that 4% difference. Nevertheless, Rizzi did put down a beautiful performance on her Dutch bred Jamboree (Consul x Darling). Good progress was made by NAYRC-experienced rider David Marcus with his dark bay mare Catalina. Trained by Cindy and Neil Ishoy, Marcus collected a 63.500% with his mare.

Yvonne Barteau, who rides for Elite European Sport Horses, put down a gorgeous test with her Swedish chestnut Chimon. The Amiral x Chiribin has a "ten-trot", as the four sox shimmers in his extended trot. The pair got 67.667% from the distinguished panel of judges. Jennifer Baumert was able to put more pressure on the leader's shoulders. With the Hanoverian Weltgraf (by Weltmeyer out of Grafin Pomp), she put 67.583% on the score board and came close to the blue ribbon but had to be content with red.
