Bonfire's First Performance Since July

Anky and BonfireAt the fourth World Cup Qualifier in Amsterdam from 2nd to 5th December 1999, van Grunsven was the leading rider for the Dutch team. During the competition which was held at the RAI Exposition Center, van Grunsven and Bonfire performed for the fist time since their individual gold medal victory at the European Championships (shown here) in July. Since the Championships while Bonfire rested, Anky and her partner-trainer Sjef Janssen have been busy bringing along future prospects.

Van Grunsven dominated the Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire I level with her Hanoverian gelding Gestion Joker (by Prince Tatch xx) then dazzled the sold out Sunday night crowd with her number one partner Gestion Bonfire. The 16-year-old Oldenburg gelding (by Welt As x Praefectus xx) appeared in good form, confident and happy in front of his crowd. "The older he gets, the more confident and relaxed he becomes," she commented in the press conference after her victory in the Kur.
