Nancy Later Lavoie Dressage
Nancy Later Lavoie's lifetime career as a dressage rider and trainer has taken her on a journey she shares with her students and horses. She brings her years of knowledge and experience in competing, training and traveling in Europe and the USA. Nancy believes that clear communication is the basis for a positive partnership with one’s horse. “I believe that the reason we all love dressage is the amazing feeling we get when everything falls together and our 1000 pound dance partner becomes one with us. All the power and strength to do anything and they choose to be participating in a dance with a human. I believe I can help this dream become reality for my students, it is why I am so passionate about what I do.” Nancy has created her reputation one horse at a time. Starting from a young age, she has trained physically and sometimes mentally challenged horses to become successful in the show ring, some even after others had given up. More recently, Nancy has had some super quality horses climb the ranks onto the Finals lists and several horses she trained herself were on the Developing Horse List and competing at the Festival of Champions. Her ability to communicate the input from many of the great trainers she continues to work with is one of the strengths she projects in her popular clinics. Nancy’s goal is to leave participants with the tools they need to keep up the progress when working on their own.
Nancy's system has been developed over the years training with Conrad Schumacher and Ellen Bontje in Germany as well as through continued clinics. Her knowledge of how to help troubled horses has been fueled more recently by Tristan Tucker and his amazing TRT System, which Nancy has been studying for the past three years and has happily incorporated into her daily routine. Tristan's method has helped Nancy create confident show horses and added to the fun of training the high-level dressage movements.
The Ashby Stock Farm is an amazing facility that provides the perfect environment to immerse one’s self in learning. Nancy’s belief that horses want to participate is apparent in every lesson plan. The farm provides a peaceful environment where Nancy is able to host weekend and week long clinics where students can enjoy the friendships of other people that share their passion, while learning and promoting good horsemanship skills.
In order to better serve her horse’s needs, as well as grow roots in the spectacular New England community where Nancy was raised, she is at The Ashby Stock Farm year round. The farm offers a climate controlled arena and stable, a small number of training and sales horses and an amazing staff to cater to the wonderful animals that Nancy is dedicated to helping.
