The start of the HH President of the UAE Polo Cup in Abu Dhabi on the 14th January will start a new year for the World Polo Tour, which in 2014 has many developments. New tournaments, more points to earn, and as usual the impassioned race that goes right to the end of the year in the search of the best in the world. 2013 ended with Adolfo Cambiaso at the top of the rankings after his achievements in the Triple Crown.

After a meeting by the WPT commission it was decided that the most important grand slam of the year should be awarded more points. 70 for the Argentine Open semi finalists, similar to Hurlingham (but with 50 points). The idea is that teams that make semi final stages should gain more points.

20 points will be awarded to those who reach the quarter finals of a certain key tournament in the Argentine season – The Camara de Diputados.

Another tournament that has raised the points is the Dubai Gold Cup, where winners will get 50 points.

There are also new additions. The Copa Municipalidad de Pilar enters the WPT Cup category, and the winners get 70 points. Venezuela also enters the fray, with the Agualinda Victor Jose Vargas Santaella, at Caracas Polo. France includes the Open de Paris, and in the UK the Harrison Cup and Holden White (Cowdray), the Indian Empire Shield and Archie David (Coworth/Guards) all enter.

The Middle East continues its expansion in the rankings, with the ingress of the HH President of UAE Cup, at Ghantoot Polo & Racing Club (Abu Dhabi), and the same in Thailand with the Thai Open.
Several clubs in Argentina also take their place in the WPT: Copa de Diamante (La Dolfina), Copa El Remanso (El Remanso), Copa America (Alegria-Polo One) y Copa Julio Novillo Astrada (La Aguada PC).

As if that wasn’t enough, a new destination enters the ranking – Mexico. The WPT commission evaluated the fixture in Costa Cayeres next April and will include it as from January 2015 to turn it into the first event in the ranking for the Aztec nation.

Finally the WPT commission asks the players, both amateur and professional who are on the rankings list to communicate via info@worldpolotour.com to update their profiles if they are enabled. If you don’t have a profile please send us your details so that we can create one in time so that everyone is represented.
